Metallic Epoxy Floors in Boulder, CO

Serving Boulder · Boulder County

One Crew for Boulder Garages, Basements and Shop Floors

Boulder sits about 25 miles northwest of Denver, at the base of the foothills. We are based on the northeast side of Denver and drive up for the work. What we find in Boulder is a high-end remodel market sitting on old concrete. The median Boulder house was built in 1977, and about 7 percent of them predate 1940.

That is why metallic epoxy floors come up more often in Boulder than in most of our service area. People here spend on the finish, and the garage or basement is often part of a larger remodel. The slab underneath is usually decades old, so prep decides how the floor turns out.

Old Boulder Concrete Under a New Remodel

Mapleton Hill became Boulder's first historic district in 1982. It holds around 500 homes, and more than half of them went up before 1910. Whittier, just east of downtown, is not far behind in age.

Those blocks were platted with alleys, so the garages are detached and sit off the lane. A detached Boulder garage is almost always unheated. From October on that decides the product, and polyaspartic keeps curing at temperatures where epoxy quits.

Slabs that old bring their own list. Many were poured with no vapor barrier under them, so we test for moisture first. Cracks get chased out and filled, and spalled areas get patched and leveled before anything goes down.

Why Metallic and Polished Concrete Fit Boulder

Boulder's charter caps buildings at 55 feet, and city zoning holds most of the town to 35. Adding height is hard here, and the city has argued over pop-tops and scrapes for years. Remodel money tends to land on what is already standing.

A metallic epoxy floor fits that market. The pattern is worked by hand while the coat is still wet, so no two floors match. Boulder houses carry a lot of glass, so we put a UV-stable polyaspartic clear over the top. That keeps the color from ambering in the sun.

Where the slab is sound and the floor should read as concrete, polished concrete is the other route. It suits the modern architecture going up around North Boulder.

Labs, Shops and the Gunbarrel Corridor

Boulder's commercial work leans toward labs and production rooms rather than big warehouses. NCAR, NIST and NOAA all sit in the city. The Diagonal corridor out toward Gunbarrel carries most of the flex and light industrial space. A fair amount of it gets converted to lab use.

A lab or shop floor is specified around what lands on it. Solvents, acids, wash-down water and cart traffic each pull the spec a different way. Tell us what gets spilled and we match a system to it. Full detail sits on our commercial and industrial coatings page.

Questions From Boulder Property Owners

A few of the questions we hear most around Boulder. Don't see yours? Call us — we're happy to help.

Call (720) 691-6294

Are you based in Boulder?
No. We are based on the northeast side of Denver and drive up for the job. Our working radius runs 80 miles out from Denver, so Boulder is a normal run. We cover 80301 through 80305, plus Gunbarrel, Table Mesa and Martin Acres.
Do you do metallic epoxy floors in Boulder?
Often, and it is one of the main reasons people call us from up there. We mix test palettes with you before the pour so you choose off real samples. Every metallic epoxy floor gets a UV-stable polyaspartic clear over it so the color holds.
My Mapleton Hill garage is detached and unheated. Can it still be coated?
Usually yes, and that is a big reason we use polyaspartic. It cures at temperatures where epoxy stops working, which keeps alley garages workable later into the year. There is still a cold limit, and we will tell you when we reach it.
Does the Boulder wind affect the install?
We plan around it. Boulder has recorded at least 16 windstorms with gusts over 100 mph since 1967. The record is 147 mph, set in 1971. Wind drives dust and grit onto a wet coating, so the door stays shut on those days.
