Broomfield sits midway between Denver and Boulder, along US 36 and US 287. We are based on the northeast side of Denver and drive up for the work. On November 15, 2001, Broomfield became Colorado's 64th county, the newest in the state and the smallest by area. The change came because the city had grown into four counties: Boulder, Adams, Jefferson and Weld.
Most Broomfield homes are young. The median home was built in 2002, and more than half went up in 2000 or later. So a typical garage here sits on younger concrete, and a garage floor coating goes on quickly. Fewer than one in ten homes predate 1970, and those older slabs take more prep.

Broomfield kept growing fast through the 2000s, especially north of 136th Avenue. Census figures count 7,684 housing units built from 2000 to 2009 and 9,557 from 2010 to 2019. Another 1,105 went up in 2020 or later.
Concrete that young is usually sound, so the prep is lighter. We diamond grind the floor and fill any cracks, then the system goes down. For these garages we usually suggest a full-broadcast flake floor, which hides grit and tire marks. A polyaspartic top coat holds its color in the strong Broomfield sun, where plain epoxy ambers.
Broomfield winters still reach these newer garages. The state sprays magnesium chloride on the interstates all winter, and tires carry it home. On bare concrete it works into the pores and breaks the surface apart from the inside. A coated floor keeps it on top, where it wipes up.
Work on the Denver-Boulder Turnpike began in 1950, and Broomfield Heights followed in 1955. The city incorporated on June 6, 1961. The turnpike went free on September 14, 1967, and became US 36. Census figures count 1,325 housing units from the 1950s and 1,196 from the 1960s.
Slabs from that era need real prep. On a garage that old, spalling shows first just inside the door, where snowmelt and ice melt collect. Some older Broomfield slabs have a deeper problem. Denver-area soils include expansive clay that swells when wet and shrinks when dry. If a Broomfield slab is heaving, sinking or cracked through its full depth, no coating or overlay will fix it. That slab is a replacement question, and we will tell you so on the walk-through.
Broomfield also has a business side. Crocs and Vail Resorts have their headquarters here, and the Interlocken office park sits inside the city. So does the FlatIron Crossing mall, a large shopping and entertainment center.
